October 6th: Tyrol's Annual Refresher
The Tyrol Basin Ski Patrol is holding our annual refresher on Sunday October 6, and we would like to ask any NHS members to come out and volunteer with us again.
These volunteers would be pretending to have injuries, and our patrollers will rotate through stations to practice treating the various injuries. We may use fake blood or prosthetic parts to make the injuries look more realistic. Our goal is to make practice as realistic as possible.
For anyone who volunteers to help, we will provide them with donuts, juice, and water in the morning, and lunch is provided as well. Tyrol Basin management has said they will also provide one free lift ticket for any volunteers that we receive. For students who need volunteer/community service hours I will also sign letters to indicate their participation and thank them for their volunteer service.
The feedback that I received over the last two years about the student volunteers has been amazing. I'd need them to be at Tyrol at about 8:00, and assuming that our day stays on schedule, we should be done by 3:15.
If interested in this awesome opportunity to get service hours, contact [email protected]

October 24th: Creepy Crawl
The Mount Horeb Recreation Department is planning for our annual Creepy Crawl. Our Creepy Crawl is a haunted hike through part of the Military Ridge Trail. The trail is lit by carved pumpkins and lined with spooks and scares of all kinds. After the hike is completed, there are hay wagon rides and a petting zoo.
This year's Creepy Crawl will be on Thursday, October 24th. We are looking for groups who would like to volunteer at our event. We are in need of volunteers at our Spook Stations and as Trail Guides.
The Spook Stations are the entertainment of our trail! Your group would plan a theme (e.g. zombies, witches, ghosts) and dress up to scare along the trail. Volunteers would need to be at the trail from 6:00-8:30pm.
Trail guides escort groups during our “Scarier Experience” after dark. They walk with each group down the trail. Trail guides work from 7:00-8:15pm.
Would any of the members of the National Honor Society be willing to volunteer with us this year? It is definitely a fun event for groups to do together. We would love to have them and we can also give them Silver Cord hours for their time or they could use these hours to fulfill their NHS time.
If they are available and interested, one of them could contact me by email ([email protected]) or phone (437-3400) for further details.

November:
T-SHIRT DRIVE Info:
Some students have decided that they want to make blankets to donate to the Friends of State Street organization. These will be stitched together from clothes donated to the cause and distributed to the homeless of Madison to keep them warm this winter. Please consider signing up using the following sign up genius link (below) and taking student donations of gently-used clothing during lunch in the commons. I will be placing a bin in the office that students will need to pick up before and drop off after the hour they volunteer.
Please consider donating your time to this worthy cause for one of your minor requirements.
Kindness Retreat Info:
The freshman will be doing the Kindness Retreat, run by LiNK leaders on November 19th (at the IC) and December 5th (at the Middle School). This retreat is scheduled to last all day and any students who volunteer will have their attendance excused. If you are already a LiNK leader, and need to participate in this for that, you cannot count it as hours for NHS.
We need about 50 student volunteers. This would be a great way to get involved and will count as BOTH a minor AND all six hours, as it is an 8 hour commitment. If interested, sign up on the form below with the date you can commit to volunteer today.
